Why should the Management be
against PTA and Parents?
The management of this school is very conveniently forgetting
that parents are an integral part of the institution. The
parents are sending their children to the institution with the
hope that children will be getting all the necessary academic
requirements. The management has every responsibility to see
that the children are taken care both academically and
physically. It is the duty of an efficient management to
coordinate with the parents and make sure that the children get
the best possible facilities.
The school management is forgetting its own Aims & Objects
mentioned in the school Prospectus which states the following
under the head Aims & Objects:
The sole aim of establishing S.N.Vidya Bhavan is to provide quality education, academic
perfection and professional competence to the children of this
backward coastal area who cannot afford even to dream English
Medium education, a privilege hitherto available only to the
children of city dwellers and those belonging to the higher
strata of society. Our only aim is to prepare rural children of
poor and middle class people and thereby equip themselves to
participate successfully in All-India competitive examination
and talent tests. ...
(SEE THIS EXTRACT FROM SCHOOL WEBSITE) You could see the
above printed in the School Diary
It is very unrealistic on the part of the management to act in a
way contradicting the institutions own laid Aims & Objects.
A sudden and exorbitant hike in the school fees by the
management is unjustifiable. A new fee structure with an
increase ranging from 25% to 200% under different heads compared
to the existing fee structure has been decided unilaterally by
the management and they have been thwarting the genuine demands
from the part of the parent representatives to keep this
increase to a reasonable limit.
A parent or a parent representative should be treated with due
respect and consideration by the authorities. Their grievances
and opinions are not to be left unheard or unaddressed. It is
very unfortunate to see the management trying to suppress the
genuine demands of parents and parent representatives due to
their avarice. It is a disgrace to the institution to have a
management who does not know how to conduct themselves. A group
of morons with muscle power does not make an efficient
management. It is a pity to find people of such mean dignity
heading an educational institution.
The parents have to remain united and show the management the
right way. We should not let anybody play with our children's
future!

Suggestion: Compared to
similar schools functioning in the district, the teachers of S.
N. Vidya Bhavan are handsomely paid and it is understood that
this was the opinion of majority of parents who were present in
the meeting called by P.T.A.at Edamuttam on 9th July. In case
the teachers are not satisfied and require pay parity with the
state government teachers, the doors of the State Public Service
Commission always remain open for them to appear for the
competitive examinations conducted by them. There has never been
any ban for them to appear in such examinations. Further, it is
upto the parents and the like to evaluate the performance of the
teachers and the teachers themselves evaluating their
performance as BEST appears to be self-admiration. Moreover, all
the students of XI th Standard have paid exorbitant amount of
fees, including the tuition fees for the month of June 2008 and
RE-ADMISSION FEES of Rs 1,500/-, at the time of admission itself
and hence it appears very odd and unjustifiable that the Class
teachers of XI th standard too have been insisting the students
to pay fees immediately. As far as the students of XI th
Standard are concerned, no amount of fees is pending overdue as
on date. The head of the Science department should clarify the
need of collecting laboratory fees of Rs 200/-from each student
of Class VIII. As per the revised simplified Science syllabus of
Class VIII, there is no scope at all for demonstrating any
experiment in the class. Thus clarifications are required on
many aspects before insisting for a Himalayan hike in tuition
fees. Most probably, the teachers of physical education and fine
arts may not be aware of such fees being collected without any
justification. The teachers on the war path and those appearing
in press conferences should also clarify as to why a huge sum is
collected as admission fees from those students of class XI who
were the students of the same school from the very beginning and
had already paid admission fees at the time of their initial
admission.
It is very painful that the teachers are supporting the huge
hike in tuition fees [to the extent of 50% in Classes XI and
XII]and keeping a studied silence regarding the other amounts
collected from the poor parents without any accountability. Let
us first sort out such anomalies before putting such a heavy
burden on the shoulders of the parents.

Suggestion: It is quite disheartening to note that the
Management Committee of the school is conducting itself in a
rather derogatory manner. Though education has become a business
now, it is quite mean on the part of a decent management to fall
back on the promises given. If the management strongly feels
that a fee hike is inevitable, at least it should discuss the
same with the PTA and come into an amicable settlement of things
rather than letting things go astray.
It was quite sad to note the teachers, who are supposed to be
the role models to the little ones in school, talking insensibly
and walking out after their "valuable comments" had been made in
the PTA meeting on July 9, 2008. They should understand that
they are not just the mouthpiece of the Management, though
sincerity to Management is very much essential. They should at
least talk to the parents in a convincing manner, respecting and
understanding their feelings. We as parents, look upon the
teachers with great expectations and it is quite demoralizing
and frightful for us when they fall short of our minimum
expectations. We send our little ones to school with the hope
and prayer that they are in the right hands. After all what is
an educational institution without proper teaching staff who are
to be the pillars of it! I hope and pray to Lord that they be
blessed with the wisdom to understand the nobility of their
profession!
I sincerely hope and pray that this issue of fees hike be sorted
out at the earliest for the good of everyone. Let us hope and
pray that we all do our best for the good of our children as
well as for the Institution.

Suggestion: The rate of fee hike can not be justified. From this
site I understand that there is a hefty increase in the fees upto 200%. That is to be reduced. The stand of PTA that they
are totally opposing the fee increase is not correct. Teachers
are to be paid well in order to impart education to pupils. So
some increase is justified especially since living price is very
high these days
